Let'sss just kill him, " said the shorter Ra'zac. "He has caused us much grief." The taller one ran his finger down his sword. "A good plan. But remember, the king's instructions were to keep them alive."-from Eragon, Chapter Title: The Ra'zac's Revenge.

Christopher Paolini
About This Quote

In the classic fantasy novel, Eragon , the Ra'zac are a group of creatures that seek to capture and torture Eragon and his dragon Saphira. The Ra'zac believe it is their duty to make the world a better place and for this reason they want to destroy anyone who gets in their way. However, as it is with any group, there are those who do not agree with the main idea. It is at this point that the taller Ra'zac says that it is time to kill Eragon as he has caused them much grief.

The shorter one is quick to agree as he believes that is what they should do. Yet, the taller Ra'zac disagrees and describes their goal as having been to keep Saphira and Eragon alive so that they could prove themselves worthy.
